3 April. Essay - Format as a Business Letter

Originally this was for the dual-credit students, but its utility is appealing so this is a test grade for all English 1301 and English 1302 students.  Since most of you are not high school seniors, adapt the assignment to your personal circumstances and project ten years ahead.  Follow the block form business letter format.

All seniors are to write a letter to one’s self at 28 for an easy 100 test grade.  If you are not a Jasper High School student, write a letter to yourself ten years hence.  This should be finished before final exams.

You will graduate on Friday, 7 June 2013.  The tenth anniversary of that event will be 7 June 2023.  For the spring of that year (probably not on that specific date) your class president will plan a festive ten-year reunion for the Jasper High School Class of 2013.   Your children will think you are old.  This will annoy you.

In anticipation of that happy occasion – and for a test grade now – write a letter on standard letter-paper to that man or woman you will be ten years hence.  Tell that man or woman in early middle-age who you are, what your dreams are, what your plans are.  Talk about your friends and their dreams.  You may want to mention some of your favorite things or people, but don’t build catalogues.  Just talk.

Type / compute your letter in the block form business letter format you learned (didn’t you?) in class, on standard letter paper, as many pages as you like.    Of course you will type it at home, but begin roughing it out now.  You should also accomplish your end-of-term work and review for your final exams .
